Women’s Sailing Series, River Dunes, NC
River Dunes, NC: Women, Wind and Wine. A fitting combination for a series of weekend classes that offer beginner to intermediate women who sail the opportunity to expand boat handling skills and on-water experience.
Based out of the Harbor at River Dunes, classes will be led by the Oriental School of Sailing and will cover topics including boat handling, rigging, navigation and safety, including a full-day of on-water experience in Pamlico Sound, one of the foremost sailing locations on the coast of the eastern US, and site of the 2008 Etchells Class Mid Atlantic Championship Series.
“With more and more women becoming active in the sailing world, the timing is right to offer a great instructional weekend. The intention of this course, in addition to developing new skills, is to provide on-water experiences in one of the best settings in North Carolina, and to offer participants the an opportunity to connect with women who share a common interest.
It is our hope that these programs will become the foundation of a future women’s sailing program at River Dunes,” states J.C. Capplemann, Director of Marina Operations at River Dunes. “For that reason, girls over the age of 12 may attend, accompanied by an adult.”
On-shore classes will be taught at the Harbor Club at River Dunes. The weekend activities will begin on Friday, June 4 with a wine reception. On Saturday evening, following the class, a special dinner will be held. Accommodations are available in rental cottages adjacent to the Harbor Club
