England Manager Ponders Line Up For Friday
Fabio Capello, the England Manager, continues to ponder on his best line–up for the forthcoming match with Algeria.
Algeria play with three centre halves and two mobile full backs. With this in mind does Capello go for a big man up front, Emil Heskey, so as to keep the centre halves busy whilst Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard exploit the knock-downs? Or does he bring in the speed of Defoe?
Capello has a fully fit squad except for Ledley King, and today he went on record with the BBC to state that Gareth Barry will start as the midfield lynchpin. Barry has been sidelined since the end of the Premiership season but is now fully fit and raring to go!
Two other issues are flexing Capello’s thoughts. Who will partner John Terry in the centre of defence and who will stand between the sticks!
He has three options at centre back with Carragher, Dawson and Upson and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod. For goalkeeper the key question is has Robert Green got his awful mistake during the USA match out of his mind? Goalkeepers can carry errors like that with them for many months but the intensity of this tournament does not allow Capello and Green that luxury.
Will the manager opt for the age and experience of David James, the oldest man in the competition or continue with Green?
The manager will only tell his squad the line up some two hours before kick-off on Friday , which all adds to the anxiety that all of England feels presently.
