England with Upson in for Carragher, Milner back on the right flank and Defoe in the centre with Rooney looked a more compact outfit.

The early goal from Defoe settled some nerves but although England had some great chances, Rooney hitting the post, they couldn’t kill off the opposition. The Slovenian goalkeeper Handanovic made some great saves and their centre backs were resilient.

As the game wore on Rooney was replaced by Joe Cole of Chelsea. As always Rooney did not take his substitution very well but his display was well below normal. In the final minutes Heskey replaced Defoe and England played out a nervy last 15 minutes.?????????

This was epitomized by Terry trying to head away when things became desperate some six inches off the ground!

England Manager Capello was effusive in praise of his team and believes “they are back”

For Slovenia disappointment at losing the match turned into anguish as they learnt that the USA had scored in injury time and therefore went through with England to the next round.

Bill Clinton enraptured watches USA take the game to Algeria and are denied by viagra woodwork and the exceptional goalkeeping of M’Bohli

The match throughout was end to end with the American strikers Clinton Dempsey and Altidore , both of Fulham, combining well Most of the American attacks were coming down the left flank with the full back Bornstein being particularly effective.

Defensively the trio of Demerit, Captain Bocanegra and keeper Tim Howard did wondrously, particularly in the final stages when America made attacking substitutions that meant there were only three at the back. This opened the opportunity for Algeria to counter attack and only last ditch defending kept them out on a number of occasions.

Both teams knew that a win was what was needed but the USA were far more energetic and positive in their play.

In the final minutes USA were throwing caution to the winds with Dempsey, Altidore, Buddle and Bradley all going close.

As the final seconds ticked by with only minutes of injury time remaining Landon Donovan picked up a rebound from the Algerians keeper’s save to slot home.

The States are through as Group winners with England for the knock-out stages of the competition.

In the first match against Germany, Tim Cahill’s questionable sending off, ruined the whole atmosphere for Aussies’ fans. Video evidence suggested that the referee overreacted and denied Australia a strong opening.

Yesterday, Australia took on Ghana in their second match. Amazingly Harry Kewell was also red carded in the first half. Video evidence seems to suggest that Kewell would have had a hard time in getting out of the way of Gyan’s fierce shot. The Ghanaians scored as a result of the resultant penalty to draw level in the 25th minute.

Australia fought gallantly for the remaining 65 minutes and held out for a very creditable draw.

The Australian coach, Pim Verbeek, didn’t believe Kewell deliberately attempted to stop the goal bound shot.

For Australia, the final match next week against Serbia means they have to win and win well.

Australia’s week reached a crashing climax with the 21 to 20 beating by the English in the second of the rugby Tests in Sydney, leveling the series. The defeat was further pronounced by the appearance of Rugby World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson for England, who played his part in a stirring second half and kicked the winning goal .

Nicholas Anelka’s verbal outburst with Raymond Domenech, the French manager during the half time interval between France vs Mexico, is the first real obvious illustration that all it is not right in a number of team camps.

Only today, Patrick Evra had a spat with a fitness coach which resulted in the coach tossing away his accreditation and walking from the training pitch. This further illustrates some of the problems involved in multimillion dollar soccer.

Subsequently after today’s disagreement it is reported that the French squad refused to train in preparation for Tuesday’s match against South Africa.

Recently other comments emanating from struggling teams such as Spain and England show further indications that highly paid superstars believe their thoughts and comments are the most correct and beyond reproach by either coach or the press.

It was telling that following the immediate post match comments from Wayne Rooney, English striker, when leaving the field and complaining about the English fans booing him, we find the whole England team has got the message and apologized for the horrible performance that they put up against Algeria.

It’s seems to be an increasing irritation for European fans that the stars they idolize week in, week out for their clubs show no similar passion or inclination for their countries.
Fans around Europe are questioning the integrity of their highly paid stars.

It is seems we are likely to see further illustrations of European players reacting to their team management and the increasing criticism from fans.

Mount Washington Ski Resort is excited by this unique opportunity for Vancouver Island skiers to enjoy the slopes with sun beating down. The Resort expects to see lots of bikini tops and even guys in shorts enjoying the slopes.

After an extraordinary winter where Mount Washington ranked at the top of the biggest snowpacks in the World and hosted many Olympians, the residue of the snow still persists and this offers a real PR opportunity for the resort.

This weekend is the first of a host of special events going on the mountain over the next three months. Included in that programme are mountain biking , food and beer fests and other music events.

Get motoring ! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for West Coast Canadians.

England were totally out of sorts in their draw with Algeria. The North Africans ended up with 52 % of the possession and looked the better side. Whilst England’s keeper James had a quiet game the England side as a whole were a terrible disappointment.

For a team of superstars earning millions of dollars the England side were a disgrace. Particularly Wayne Rooney, who the whole country sets such store by, was diabolical.

Of the England eleven only the full backs Johnson and Cole, Jamie Carragher at centre back and keeper James come out with any credit. In fact Ashley Cole was awarded the Man of the Match Award.

The Algerians came with a plan and a point in mind and succeeded. Their three centre played extremely well and contained a lively Heskey in the first half but their job was so easy with the rest of the England attack and mid-field misfiring.

The lethargy and awful ball control must have set the English hearts back in the UK ablaze with fury. This was a typical game by the English superstars who turn it on week to week in the English Premiership but fail regularly when they put the White shirt on.

Fabio Capello the England Manager, on his birthday, was beside himself with fury for most of the game.

In a team game like soccer you can have 8 players “on their game” and have to carry two who are out of sorts. The England team today had 7 out of sorts and 4 others, Carragher, Cole, Johnson and James trying to carry the team to a victory they so desperately wanted.

Fabio Capello, the England Manager, continues to ponder on his best line–up for the forthcoming match with Algeria.

Algeria play with three centre halves and two mobile full backs. With this in mind does Capello go for a big man up front, Emil Heskey, so as to keep the centre halves busy whilst Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard exploit the knock-downs? Or does he bring in the speed of Defoe?

Capello has a fully fit squad except for Ledley King, and today he went on record with the BBC to state that Gareth Barry will start as the midfield lynchpin. Barry has been sidelined since the end of the Premiership season but is now fully fit and raring to go!

Two other issues are flexing Capello’s thoughts. Who will partner John Terry in the centre of defence and who will stand between the sticks!

He has three options at centre back with Carragher, Dawson and Upson and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod. For goalkeeper the key question is has Robert Green got his awful mistake during the USA match out of his mind? Goalkeepers can carry errors like that with them for many months but the intensity of this tournament does not allow Capello and Green that luxury.

Will the manager opt for the age and experience of David James, the oldest man in the competition or continue with Green?

The manager will only tell his squad the line up some two hours before kick-off on Friday , which all adds to the anxiety that all of England feels presently.

Coming into the Tournament David Beckham’s achilles injury was a known problem but the withdrawal on the eve of the games by Captain Rio Ferdinand was a real and unseen blow.

Bringing midfielder Gareth Barry along even though he was known to be injured was a calculated risk which seems to be paying off but niggles surrounding Rooney and Ashley Cole provide issues that Manager Capello could do without.

However problem surrounding Ledley King do provide for further examination. King has known knee issues which have threatened his career for many seasons but Tottenham have nursed him back to his best in recent months. His form over the final weeks of the season was stunning.

On the weekend the Tottenham skipper only lasted 45 minutes before being replaced by Jamie Carragher of Liverpool. What is surprising though is that it is reported that King sustained his groin strain in the fourth minute.

Given his long standing issues with knee injuries it would have been thought that he would have his own strenuous and dedicated warm-up regime so as not to inflame the knees going into a game. How then can a seasoned pro tear his groin in four minutes? As a defender you expect in the first ten minutes to be put under pressure so you do not have the luxury of getting warm slowly in the first few minutes of the match. You must be ready for immediate action.

Ledley King is likely to be out for three weeks and miss at least three games, if England make it that far. It will be interesting to see whether any further details surface regarding his injury over the coming weeks.

and for the first time in Resort ’s history you can ski & board over the opening weekend.

Skiing and boarding on June 19th and 20th.
Skiing in June is a first in the resort’s thirty-two year history.

With an incredible 15 metres of snowfall from November 2009 through April 2010, and the mild weather there is still plenty of snow at the higher elevations and enough lower down to make it from the all the way to the Alpine Lodge.

Mount Washington is going to open up one top to bottom run next weekend, the Summer opening weekend for those of you who can’t get enough of skiing and boarding!

The mountain will be loading skiers and boarders onto the Eagle Express from 11am to 4pm on opening weekend. This is a special event and dads can ski or board for $10 on Father’s Day when they head up the lift with their child.

Linton’s Loop will be the chosen run for the summer skiing weekend. Get out your skis and boards and take to the slopes for two days of alpine summer alpine fun!

Mile High Chair Lift Rides

Mount Washington’s regular summer Mile High Chairlift rides also begins June 19th with dad’s getting a free ride to the top for some sightseeing on Father’s Day.

Mountain Bike Park

The mountain’s popular Bike Park is scheduled to open on July 1 and the Mountain have been busy been clearing snow off the bike trails since the beginning of May to help initiate and speed up the melt process in those areas and are hopeful that they can get some of the trails ready by the planned opening date.

Other Resort based activities

The Bungee Trampoline, playground, mini golf and disc golf will be opened as soon as possible when all the snow has melted.

Although rocked back by and early Steven Gerrard goal in the 4th minute the Americans grew in confidence An early yellow card issued to James Milner of England unsettled the English and they quickly brought Shaun Wright-Phillips on as a substitute.

England continued to be disjointed with USA gaining confidence as the first half wore on. Then in the 40th minute, almost against the run of play, striker Clint Dempsey tried a speculative shot from distance which England keeper Robert Green allowed to squirm past him.

The States were delirious and finished the first half on a high.

England made their second change during the break bringing on utility defender Jamie Carragher for Ledley King.

The second half was an engrossing game with England marginally in the ascendancy but playing really poorly for them. Going forward into the penalty area they created some alarms for American center backs Demerit and Onyewu but both continued to stem the English tide. Onyewu was having an extraordinary match given this was his first competitive game since August.

For England’s part they continued to look disjointed and out of sorts and although they had some good goal attempts from Rooney, Johnson and Heskey as the half wore on it became obvious they were settling for a draw

For the Americans this was a very good opening performance and gives them a real chance of reaching the knock-out stages.

For England the jury must still be out. From the position that England are considered to be one of the favorites and a certainty for at least the quarter final stage this performance was poor , lacking in confidence and conviction. Their manager Fabio Capello has a lot of work to do!
