On Jan 15, 2010 the recall began and it has now been increased to include four lots of Benadryl Allergy Ultratablets and one lot of Extra Strength Tylenol.

These over the counter drugs were distributed in the USA, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Tobago.

This extent of recalls has lead to congressional investigations.

It seems the odor has come from a chemical used in the treating of wooden pallets in which the store medication packaging materials were shipped on.

In a related incident: Ingredients used in the production of Some of the 40 kinds of children s cold medicines were found contaminated with bacterias, according to the FDA.

In 1982 Johnson & Johnson took just 6 days to issue a company product wide recall at a cost of over $100 million, due to product tampering.

Today, it has taken them 20 months to issue this recall, a decision made after the FDA concluded an investigation and reported on many problems at the Johnson & Johnson factory.

Windshield wiper system might cause a fire. This is what GM says and they have issued a 1.5 million vehicle recall.

The Buick Enclave, Cadillac CTS and several Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks and SUVs. The recall involves 2006 through 2009 model-year vehicles.

This is not the first recall for the exact problem, in 2008 GM had a similar recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states they have received reports of “thermal incidents” among the fixed vehicles.

This GM recall comes amidst an increased concern for vehicle safety largely due to Toyota Motor corps quality issues.

To date GM states they are aware of 5 fires with no injuries or crashes.

They will fix the problem by disabling the windshield washer fluid heating system.

Of these 1.5 million vehicles, GM reports close to 1.4 million of them are in the USA.

Delta has been listening to their customers and they have eliminated the once $150 fee to use your SkyMile award tickets.

With all good news comes a bit of salt and that is that Delta has increased the fee from $100 to $150 for those frequent flier award flights that need to be changed.

Back in July 2009 United Airlines went the same way and removed their last minute short term (under 20 day) booking agent fees so now delta air has followed the path of least resistance.

In an e-mail sent out to SkyMiles frequent-flier members today, Delta says “this means you will no longer pay a redemption fee of up to $150 when you book an Award Ticket within 20 days of departure. Award Tickets booked 21 days or more prior to departure will continue to have no Award redemption fee.”

3.8 % increase for same-store reports over last year, over the same time frame. LOL

Not enough to just say sales are up, retail sales resume. Overall the spring season is down, however May itself has shown an increase. This is good for now, lets hope it holds.

What are some of the ways retailers can improve sales?

Giving their employees more retail sales training is one. Retail sales by definition means over the counter, direct to consumer. If you are going to sell direct to a consumer you best be polite, courteous and darn well know what you are talking about.

If retailers were to do a whole bunch more retail merchandising training and have the manager give out certificates for in-house training we all might be a little more inclined to shop outside the home, hey, just for the experience of it all.

What is hurting the retail sales figures is the introduction of online sales, well ok, online sales started 10 years back, but it is growing yearly in popularity, taking away from brick and motor sales.

Dispensing machine, vending machines and now the newest term: automated retail stores or product dispensing centers are catching on in popularity. They take up little real estate, they operate 24/7 and most just require a little power to them.

Are retail merchandising jobs on their way out the door? Probably not, at least for the big corporations like Radio Shack which has recently been valued at over $3 billion.

There is still money around and it is being spent.
