Ms Gilliard has stepped back from the controversy that surrounded the issue and has suspended the Government’s proposed advertising campaign which was to explain the reasons behind the tax.

In turn the major miners, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto have issued positive comments on the situation and have welcomed the possibility of discussions with the new PM.

The whole mining tax issue currently has two major problems attached to any potential resolution.natutal viagra has no side effect of viagra Firstly the Government budget is considerably influenced by the tax revenues expected from this new tax. Secondly the miners are holding fire on a number of new projects and the spending of billions of dollars until they can determine that their projected expansion will be financially worthwhile.<a
Rudd ‘s popularity has been falling for many months and his fight with the major mining companies appears to have tipped the balance against him. He had attempted to bring in a “super tax” on the profits gained by the likes of Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.

Rudd felt that these major miners were getting super or disproportionate profits due to the staggering growth of China and their unending appetite for basis resources such as iron ore, copper and coal.

Over the past two months the miners have waged a media war against Rudd and his attempts to implement this tax.

Rudd felt that the windfall profits being made by the miners should be taxed so that Australia’s health care system and pension fund could also benefit.

Whilst his first two years were extremely popular a number of policy hiccups over climate change and immigration issues started his popularity on a downward curve.

With an election likely later this year the Labour Party felt his leadership was compromised and put their support behind Rudd’s deputy Julia Gillard.

She now becomes Australia’s first female leader.

Kenneth Feinberg is a lawyer who also oversaw the 911 compensation packages after the 911 attacks.

BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said dividends would not be paid for the rest of this year.

President Obama has also instructed a 120 million dollar fund to be set up to compensate oil industry workers.

BP’s share price has fallen due to this news and BP has been accused of not following proper procedures leading up to the explosion of the Deepwater horizon.

Scientists believe as much as 35,000 to 60,000 barrels of oil continue to leak daily and oil is washing up on the shores of the gulf coast states.

The good news is that Wisconsin Unemployment is down and has been decreasing steadily.

The bad news is that fraud, people taking advantage of the system and claiming and receiving payments that they are not entitled to is up. Known fraud stands at $17 million for 2009

The downturn in the economy is a possible reason for this increase in fraud.

All kinds of jobs, as many as 32,000 have been created since the begining of the year and they have been part and full time positions.

The largest gains are in manufacturing, with 4000 jobs within this area alone.

Secretary Roberta Gassman, for the Department of Workforce Development says “With the support from our federal partners and the leadership of Governor Jim Doyle, Wisconsin is focused on helping businesses create jobs and providing workers across the state with opportunities to get those jobs.”

It seems as if Brits are being encouraged by the recent drops in the Euro to consider purchasing property abroad. Given the state of the pound this is somewhat startling but may indicate an increasing “feelgood’ factor returning.

Over the past two years British newspapers have been full of articles showing the problems of Brits owning abroad, most particularly pensioners. One publication some months ago went so far as to say that some 4,000,000 Overseas Brits were being forced to consider returning to the British Isles because of the weakness of the pound. This situation was apparently being made worse by the fact that all seemed to be putting their foreign homes up for sale at the same time with a resultant glut. This was particularly true of popular areas in Spain.

Rightmove suggests that the most popular country for searches recently was Spain with 22%, France was second with 18% and the USA 3rd with 12%. Within Spain the top destinations seemed to be Minorca and then Marbella.

All the indications are that property prices have indeed fallen in popular destinations within Spain, France and Italy and with the positive exchange rate moves over the past year could attract some attention. However many experts suggest caution at this time, and a lot of research before considering buying.

Yes, Spain and other Mediterranean countries are wonderful destinations and great places to retire but caution is the watchword considering the volatile economic climate.

Everyone says the bubble will burst and the recovery is just around the corner. We all wait patiently for the housing market to restart and no one is waiting more patiently than in MN.

Foreclosure filings are up 7 % for the month of May, compared to last years stats and unfortunately MN outperforms the national foreclosure activity.

Across the whole US, there were a total of 94,000 homes repossessed and this was an all time high. Of those, over 3000 were in the state of MN alone.

The number of homes being repossessed in the U.S. has hit a record high. Lenders repossessed nearly 94,000 properties in May.The state of Minnesota accounted for 3,167 of those foreclosure filings.

The problem is that unemployment for middle America is up, this means a loss of incomes and spending.

Combine this with the problem of over financing and people find themselves owing more on their properties that they could possibly sell them for.

Now foreclosures are not new, there has always been people who could no longer pay. A growing popularity exists for people who are taking a proactive approach and deciding not to pay.

Lets hope it is not you, but remember, every state has agencies that will assist you through the process.

These you tube videos show the building falling outwards, the safety gates getting squished and people running to get out of the way.

A pedestrian and a car were the intended targets yet everyone has escaped without injury.

The excavator then continued to demolition the building and the last section of the wall also fell outwards, crushing the security fences as well as a street light.

The demolition incident occurred on the southeast corner of Hornby Street and Helmcken Street around 5:15 p.m. PT on Thursday.

This HST decision is something the provincial government pounced on within days of winning their third term in 2009. This is probably why many BC residents are upset, the government made the decision and did not properly inform us along the way.

On July 5th there will be a petition given to the provincial government with hopefully over 600,000 signatures on it.

In BC, the government may reconsider a policy if at least 10% of the voters in each of the 85 ridings have signed a petition.

The coalition against the HST, led by former Premier Bill Vander Zalm states that over 15% of voters in each riding have signed the petition.

So BC, keep your fingers crossed.

US companies are turning to Canada’s major stock market to raise funds to grow their businesses.

The big issues are tax planning and compliance issues, but doing a cross border IPO is really not that dificult.

Companies in the over $50 million of revenues and less than $500 million are looking to the Canadian natural resouce sectors.

Now before you get to excited, the IPO market is tough everywhere. Investors in Canada are just as cautious as anywhere else so be prepared for your IPO subscription to move slower than say 10 years ago.

Large investors are sitting on cash reserves these days while they watch the market direction.

If you are ready for the public IPO, maybe there is a Canadian Investor waiting?

Indications are that the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne is about to raise the CGT rates from 18% upwards. Some scaremongers are suggesting it may well go to 50%!

Estate Agents are of the opinion that if this happens then the purchase of secondary, or “buy to let” houses will be seriously curtailed. Existing rental returns means that landlords are relying on capital returns to make the whole investment work.

Current opinion believes that if the Chancellor goes ahead and raises CGT then the secondary market will slump. New investors into this segment of the market will dry up with the result that rental housing stock will reduce. Already there is a belief that the stock of available rental properties has dropped 50% over the recent months. The immediate result of this is that increases of 10% and more are being seen in new rental offerings.

London has always been a center for the purchase of secondary homes, whether by Londoners or by overseas investors. Government increases in CGT will have to be finely tuned if they are not going to put further problems into the already fragile property market.
